Edit a PDF without uploading it

Most online PDF editors send your file to a server so it can be edited there. DocZap's editor opens the PDF inside your browser, lets you add to it, and builds the new file on your own device, so contracts, forms, and records are never transmitted anywhere.

What this editor does, and what it does not

You can add text, draw, highlight, and place images. You cannot rewrite the existing paragraphs of a PDF, because the format does not store them as editable text. For corrections that need that, a source document such as Word is usually the better starting point, which is why the PDF-to-text and PDF-to-Excel tools exist.

Pair it with the other tools

After editing, use Sign PDF to add a signature, Compress PDF to make the file small enough to email, or Redact PDF to permanently remove anything sensitive.

Frequently asked questions

What can I add to a PDF with this editor?+

Text boxes, freehand drawings, highlights over existing text, and images. Click a tool, place it on the page, and move or resize it until it looks right.

Can I change the text that is already in the PDF?+

Not directly. PDFs store text as positioned characters rather than editable paragraphs, so this editor adds new content on top of the page instead of rewriting what is already there. To cover something up, add a text box or draw over it, or use Redact PDF to remove it permanently.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?+

No. The PDF is opened, edited, and saved entirely inside your browser tab, so it never reaches a server. You can verify this on our Verify Privacy page.

Are my edits permanent in the downloaded file?+

Your additions are saved into the PDF as annotations. Most PDF readers show them, but another editor may let someone move or delete them. Use Redact PDF if sensitive content must be removed for good.

Does it work on a phone?+

Yes, in a modern mobile browser. Drawing with a finger works well, though placing precise text is easier on a larger screen.

Is there a file size limit?+

No fixed limit. Because everything runs on your device, very large files depend on your device's memory.
